Starting from first principles and seeing how the physics unfolds once things are set in motion never ceases to amaze me.

Bio

I’m an Assistant Professor at The University of Osaka. My research combines multibody dynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and high-performance numerical methods to tackle dynamical problems in ocean engineering. At Marine Hydro-Science and Engineering Lab, we have a diverse team studying the dynamics of marine systems, including tethered subsea vehicles, riserless drill strings, dynamic power cables and moorings. My particular focus is on developing efficient simulation techniques for large-scale, high-fidelity simulations of coupled dynamics of interconnected rigid–flexible bodies and their interactions with the surrounding fluid. I'm also eager to extend these approaches beyond the ocean to numerical modeling of bio-inspired morphing wings, tethered airborne wind energy systems, and electric solar wind sails (E-sails).

Hobbies

I go hiking frequently. I climbed Mt. Fuji in 2018, which was a thrilling and memorable experience. I've hiked quite a few trails through mountains (Mt. Horai, Mt. Inari, Mt. Takao, Mt. Rokko, Mt. Ponpon, Nunobiki Falls) located in the Shiga and Hyogo regions. I recommend Mt.Horai and Mt. Inari for their seceneic routs and breath-taking views of Biwako Lake and Kyoto city.
